Update 16 for Mike Pless (by Mike Pless): Sunday, March 10, 2024 - 6 PM
“possible release tomorrow pending evaluation of the wounds and overall situation in the morning.”
It’s been several days since my last update. That’s intentional. I’m relatively stable and the day to day details are essentially unimportant for our purposes. But after several days, it can become clear which details are important.
So I have two “wounds” which are not unexpected given the delicate situation we have here with severely radiated tissue. Thankful it hasn’t been worse. Think of a tunnel, some of the tissues failed to hold together with the tissues they were stitched to and that opened up a channel or tunnel that has to be closed again. Both wounds seem to be responding well and appear to be healing nicely. They require packing and repacking which allows the wound to heal from inside out. Packing was three times a day when we started, now we’re packing twice a day.
Dr. Metha (repacked my neck this morning) said he’s hoping they’ll be able to repack once a day starting tomorrow if the wounds keep healing. Regardless, he said we won’t send you home until you and your wife are comfortable with repacking.
Nurse Tania just spoke to the doctor as he passed through and confirmed a possible release tomorrow pending evaluation of the wounds and overall situation in the morning.
